Notes for contributors
We are always happy to receive news contributions on issues and matters of interest to our readers. Please send in your photos, plans, comment, timelines, charts, videos, films and slideshows to illustrate the story.
1. Suitability
We reserve the right to edit all contributions to fit available space or improve readability. Editing will be done so as to not alter the message in the text; in specific cases we may contact the author prior to including the text in our publications. In case you plan to write an article contact the Editor for advice prior to sending. We may also stock articles for later publication.
2. Requirements
Each individual illustration and the text for each individual article should be supplied as individual files. Text should ideally be in a file format that is readable by MS Word, preferably saved in ‘compatibility mode’ in order to be universally readable. We prefer articles to be send as plain text with only bold or italics used. We use bold for our chapter indicators and italics for ship’s names. If not, we will alter items in the text accordingly so as to fit our house style.
Illustrations suitable for magazine-quality printing should be preferably be shot with the camera set to the highest quality setting. This will maximize both the quality of the image, as well as the range of sizes at which we will be able to use it. Scans of illustration should be at 300 dpi (optical) minimum for originals with sizes of 9 x 14 cm or larger, 600 dpi for smaller originals both in JPG format.
The photo image file type required for our website use is three colour (RGB) JPG. To ensure a digital image is suitable for publication online and also in print, our guideline for minimum image width is 1000 pixels approximately. This assumes the resolution looks sharp (not blurred!). For example: 942 pixels wide x 673 pixels high is suitable, whereas 448 x 299 pixels is too small. As a guide, the minimum file size for a three colour jpg of suitable resolution and dimensions would be 300 kB. If a selection of images is available please send them all so that we can choose the most suitable for use.
All illustrations must have captions supplied, with each caption clearly referenced to the graphic to which it refers. Important: you may be unaware of the origins of an illustration you send. In that case the credit should read ‘collection xxxxx).
3. Copyright
TugDoc International does not support unauthorised use of copyright material. All text and illustrations are accepted for reproduction on the understanding that they are free from copyright restrictions. We will always put full credit in the caption for any illustration. Illustrations supplied but not used will be held for possible later use. The content of our publications including the website is copyright Lekko International. This does not exclude the owner’s assertion of copyright over the material. We frequently get asked by companies if they can re-use images from our web site; when that happens we always refer them to whoever sent us the image in the first place.
